Sadly I didn’t get to hear from the Government Chief planner at last week’s big Planning Update. She had to drop out with Covid, a reminder that this is still a risk for us all. But I did learn that all the ‘brownfield’ land in England would only be enough for 31% of the homes we need by 2040. And that’s based on the current, never achieved 300,000 homes per year target. A target that has been missed for so long we now need 650,000 per year for the next decade to ‘catch up’ with the population. Yet actual the build rate of 140,000 looks set to drop to just 90,000 for 2023
Also, the Planning Portal fees are going up shortly and it is under consultation the increase of the council's fee.
