This was our first renovation project, but we still decided to jump off the deep end and go for a full renovation of our flat. Andrew Catto architects were recommended to us by the builders who we were considering hiring (and eventually did hire for the job). We first met with Andrew who was meticulous in trying to understand what changes we wanted to achieve and prepared the original architects' plans for our project. Andrew continued being involved, predominantly dealing with the structural engineers, licences and providing overall strategy for our project. However, Andrew also introduced us to his colleague, Melissa, who took over the day-to-day running of our project. We are extremely happy with how Melissa helped us and brought the project to its conclusion. The overwhelming pressure of undertaking a renovation can be daunting, especially when you have little to no experience. Melissa provided invaluable guidance throughout the entire process, ensuring that everything was delivered and managed in the best possible way. While Andrew's and Melissa's involvement carried with it an additional cost, it was more than justified by the savings (both in terms of actual cash and in terms of lost nervous cells) that they helped us to achieve. They expertly prevented costly mistakes that inexperienced clients might make, pushed and guided builders toward cost-effective solutions, maintained strict quality control, and ensured full compliance with current regulations. We were particularly impressed with Melissa's deep knowledge, professionalism, and the right level of authority with builders that made a real difference. I engaged Andrew Catto Architects for both design and project management of a fairly small project which nevertheless required planning permission because I live in a Conservation Area. Andrew made some suggestions which improved the design ideas I'd already had. Melissa then managed things smoothly through the process of gaining planning, engaging a building contractor, and project management of the work to completion. They were professional and thorough throughout the project, and were able to guide me through pricing the project, selecting suitable builders, and arrange contracts and invoices. Melissa's eye for detail was invaluable, and her suggestions and design changes for making the most of a limited space were incredibly helpful. The most valuable parts of the collaboration were the regular valuation meetings organised by Melissa whereby the value of the work done was checked against the building schedule, and invoices were then agreed. This helped me feel in control of the financing of the project, as well as keeping me up to date on the progress of the works. All in all, Andrew Catto Architects made me feel that my loft extension was in good hands and was well managed.

My husband and I found a property in central Putney that needed some drastic renovation. Although situated in a great location, it had an awkward layout and we also wanted to create a bit more space with a limited budget. As the house was in a conservation area we were concerned that extension work would not be permitted. In fact one architect told us it would be impossible and another too expensive. However, after meeting Andrew we were overwhelmed with his knowledge of the local area and the intricacy of submitting a planning permission in a conservation area. Upon agreeing to work with Andrew and his colleagues, they drew up a masterplan that met with our brief and that would be passed by the council. We were not disappointed. Upon planning permission being granted, Melissa was able to guide us on changes within the interiors planning, help us make informed decisions on materials to be used and provide us with design ideas. Andrew and Melissa also had great contacts of recommended contractors within the area too. Overall we are absolutely delighted with our finished project and we would 100 % recommend Andrew Catto Architects to local residents for projects big and small.

We initially chose Andrew Catto Architects for our building project because they had a wealth of local experience and clearly understood the house and what we wanted to do. They have been incredibly supportive through the whole process and made the planning and party wall process as painless as possible. We very much appreciated being able to sit around a table and discuss the designs as they developed and their local knowledge meant that they were able to help us select a contractor who we have also been really pleased with. Our project started on site just before the first lockdown and so had the potential to be very difficult but their combination of attention to detail when it mattered and pragmatism when it didn't has meant that we have a project that we are delighted with.
